I have had my 15 mins of internet fame, I am both pleased and joyful.

I submitted this drawing to a vegan breakfast blog I drool over daily, and they posted it, and it got 800+ note, which amuses me greatly, considering I am a total nerd and really just draw things that make me laugh. Out loud. That's what makes me a nerdy nerdy nerd nerd.

Anyway, point is, I'm stoked, you're stoked, we're all so full of stoke it's pouring out our ears and pooling in our shoes.

Keep your eyes open for more "HOW TO" comicas and a batch of lovelies from when I get back from HA-WAII in about a week and a half. (We're going over there to camp... yes... no fancy hotels and mai-tais... well there will be mai-tais, but no fancy hotels.... just waterfalls and beaches and me and my significant honey jumping off rocks. remind me to tell you about my new shoes too, when I get back.)

I made this comic for him, but then the wee one threw a baseball at me, which landed on my coffee cup, which was in my hand, while I was drawing this comic. Well, actually, garden time was like 4 months ago for us SoCal-ians. And believe me, I was there with trowel in hard, armed with packets of seeds and a mountain of determination. I'm an amature gardener, fueled by flickr pictures from the much more experienced. But, I try very hard and, this year, have succeeded. Earlier in the season, I had sugar snap peas coming out of my ears, carrots galore and beets! (I love beets!!) Now I have tomatoes, kale, broccoli, some carrots (still) and onion.

TODAY I bought some more seeds (carrots, cummin, and galaxy watermelon) and am so stoked to germinate and grow! I'm out there everyday, weeding, tending and watering. I love having soil caked on my hands, under my nails and all over my feet. And I LOVE walking out my backdoor to go grab a snack (which should be fuel enough to grow your own).

But in reality I am. Hence the lack of technology bummer post earlier today. Then I swear I did something. I got off my bootybutt and grabbed an ice coffee at the Pannikin, and after a brief chat with some friends and a clumsy lemon bar muching while driving my truck, I hauled my boots up to Oceanside to the Vetrans thrift store. I've been mulling the idea of making board bags out of recycled crochet'd blankets for a while now (and don't go taking my idea, becuase that makes you a crappy human) but have been too busy/ lazy to get around to it. But I did it today!!! I scored about $30 buck worth of blankets, which equals 15 blankets. They are all crazy and awesome and very very vintage. I had a go at one and made a grandma board bag for my magic fish...

IT IS AMAZING. like it worked out really really well.. Which also means all of you out there in trendy retro surf landia better scrape your pennies together and start headin over to my ETSY shop in the next few day, cuz these bad boys be goin on SALLLEEEE. No really. you all should get really really excited to see what's coming out of the Habit 3 household.

All my technology fails, mostly when i need it. Like my computer at the begining of the semester, my scanner last week, my few phones I went through this year. Luckyl, we are super luck and the universe lets up find used, reliable stuff once in a while.

Also, my boys have been gone this week. I miss them a lot. other than that, not much news.
I have a bunch of comics to show off, but with the scanner down, boohoo.

I am drawing again! YAY! it's been a while since I put pen to paper, but I'm going to be trying to the the daily "What I Wore" drawing for this year. We'll see if I can do it, but i will try!
I'm also trying to practice different styles, seeing what fits and what I like. I'm also playing with a little mix media, which I will be showing off soon (if it turns out well)
Oh, P.S. I'm learning to play "Big Rock Candy Mountain" on the ukulele. Which.... is going slowly. Baby K keeps grabbing my uk and saying "Mommy, no, shhhh....." meaning "mommy please, you're not so good".

Dreaming of Summer

Oh my oh my. Every year I get to a point (and it's always right after christmas) where I am just DONE with winter. The chilly weather, the rain, and the wiggles my little one get from not being able to run off his energy outside in the sun. So I've curated a little Etsy treasury to get myself in the mood for summer.

Also, on a perky plus side. I received a UKULELE for christmas. I have been practicing daily! I started taking some youtube classes from this lady:

They're the best classes because they're geared towards little kids, which means that I can understand it too. So far I have completed 3 of these lessons, so I can play 4 chords and 3 songs!

Hooray! I must say, the cheery ukulele music has made for some summer in December!

O! Other news, the Garden is in full swing this year! I have most seeds planted for spring, beets, beans, carrots, tomatoes (they came up on their own), broccoli, cabbage, and the ever present kale. I am also campaigning for some raised beds outside our front door for a lettuce patch and a medicinal herb garden (any ideas for this would be greatly appreciated).

This is our garden! Yes, it is in an old pool. Yes our backyard looks like a bomb went off, but it's all good.

I know it's been a few months since my last post, but between school, work and family, it's been hard to post anything (let alone be creative), but school is out and I have a current break from work, so here it is!
This picture above is a little sample of what we did for our christmas gifts for our friends. The mugs were from World Market and I just clipped a bunch of succulents, and arranged them so! Very easy!
The other gifts we gave were some paperwhite bulbs in thrifted jars, wrapped with some hand-spun cotton or vintage buttons on hemp cord. They turned out so earthy and beautiful, a good representation of our family if you ask me.

So, due to my habit of staying on the computer far too long looking through beautiful flicker pages from independent designers I adore, I found this awesome clothing re-sale site.

It's called Laws of the General Economy. It was started as a little experiment in alternative clothing resale, and has thrived since opening.

It's a place where anyone can list designer used clothes and people who want to buy them can leave their email. The owner of the item can email the person and a transaction can be made.

I have found it to be an awesome way to shop! You know what you're getting, what size it is and you are saving tons of money on awesome clothes.

I've been having a lot of fun drawing little houses lately. Just being attracted to shape, size and the use of plants (which is always wonderful).

Hello, I know, I know it's been a heck of a long time since I've posted anything. But I thought I might just put some fun stuff up.

A while back I got asked if a girl could use one of my drawings in a zine. The zine is called Elenore Zine and it's a cute little fashion/art zine.

And on the subject's of Zines... There is an awesome independent press convention in San Francisco every year called APE. The lovely Miss Elle B has procured a table for us this year and I believe that she and I will have quite an array of little zines, tiny books and most likely tons of stickers. It will be October 16th - 17th, so if you happen to be in the SF area, stop by and oggle nerds drawing pictures of weirdly normal things, and things that are not normal.

I dislike those new stainless steel water bottles. I mean, if you're going to buy one, you might as well buy the expensive Kleen Kanteen ones, they might be a little safer. But those cheep ones I just do not trust. Too much metal flaking off and going in your water... So I use glass! Recycled glass! This is a 16 oz wide mouth jam jar. It originally held some homemade canned yellow tail tuna (gifted to the husband by a local beach walker).
Now it is my water/ tea jar, following me around and making sure I'm well hydrated through out the day. Thank you my dear jam jar, please wear this sweater so you may not break.

So this is really the only watercolor I have ever done. I am not a master with water and color, it just does not work for me. But this piece has stuck a cord with a lovely lady! She is purchasing the ORIGINAL from me! It's true! High fives all around for my first official art sale!

P.S. I am going to be posting a bunch of painted/crocheted rock art up pretty soon to my Flickr. If it gets good enough response, I will open an Etsy shop for prints and original rock art pieces.
Thoughts? Ideas? An uproar for pictures of said rock loveliness? I'd love to hear it!

Our family is embarking on a new journey! Lately, I have been pretty obsessed with our food, what's in it and where it's made. We have always been healthy people who eat little meat and make most of our food, but I always thought we could do better. So, this week, I actually planned out our meals (a first for me) and bought only what i needed, plus one salty snack and one sweet snack. I did all of our veggie and fruit shopping at our local farmers market and, with the help of Vegweb.com, was able to find recipes to fit what I bought. Than, i made a list of what I sill needed and went and got that at a local health food store! Now, this may seem like common sense to some of you, but it's pretty big in our family, especially since I've been doing the cooking. THAT in our family is unheard of. Normally, I will make make maybe one meal a week and darling hubby will do the rest. But I have decided to take control and make our meals this week (and most likely every night if we keep this up).

Scrapy and Warm

Last week, in gleeful anticipation for my trip north, I crafted a lovely little cowl out of all my yellow scraps. I included a little embroidery on one part, which reads "I think you're cute". I lined it with my old yellow sweatshirt. It is incredibly snugly and brings gallons of sunshine with it where ever it goes.

It's been a while since I've used rubber stamps. Especially this one. I made this one about this time last year, and, apparently, had never printed with it. So I had to take it from it's place and see how it turned out. And I must say, I liked it! I'm excited to do some card printing and maybe some little gift prints. Siestas and olas.

I realized I have yet to write about my love affair. My bike love affair that is. I am a girl who adores her bike. Before the babe, I biked everywhere! I would ride 9 miles to work, and 9 miles home on the weekends. During the day I was able to travel around our little coastal town on bike and never have to start up the car! But then I got preggo and had to quit the biking (I asked if I could, they said no.) But now, Baby K is big and strong enough to get pulled along with me! Hooray! We've been biking almost every day now, to the beach, to the park, to friend's houses. And with the set up we have, it's hard not to. I have a sweet basket on the back and a smart little baby seat that sets up K in between the handlebars.

My lovely Alexander Girard Amsterdam Electra Bike was won in a contest by my very smart hubby. He answered a question correctly and BING I got a new ride. (And she's ever so pretty, is she not?) So if you see us riding around, give us a wave!!

HAPPY LOVE DAY

Today is LOVE DAY! I hope all of you are celebrating you love with those you love, your significant other, your babies, your pet babies, your favorite teas and coffees, your plant babies, what ever you LOVE! With my lovie, we celebrate our first Love day as a married couple, which is very exciting for us! My T got me a few new Tombo pens, wrapped in my favorite brown paper (which I use for drawings). And for him, he got a cute embroidered envelope with a knitted heart in it.

no more mud!

Mud has been a huge thing for us these past few months. We live in a tiny home who's front door opens straight down into mud! Over summer, i was able to cut down our tracking in dirt by getting a door mat, but that only covered part of our problem. In the winter, we had a lovely river flowing right in front of our door!

Due to T's fantastic job, patrolling the beaches, and the fact that the el nino storms have uncovered brick patios that have been buried under stand for over 20 year, we have collected about a hundred old, worn bricks. He spend a better part of last friday, in the drizzle, laying out our bricks in front of our door. And now... way less mud gets tracked in, and I have a BEAUTIFUL little patio!

My lovely T even arranged my plants and bean sprouts, lovingly on the bricks, out of the way of our little river. Can you spot the pumpkin that has been there since september. How it has not rotted away, I will never know.

Coffee Sack Bulletin Boards!

I've been wanting a bulletin board for quite a while now, and have been thinking of ways to use what i already have. I have a pile of coffee bean sacks from our local roasting company, and I have piles of wooden frames from my husband's collection of wood, I decided to combine the two. After looking for rolls of cork board and finding it nowhere, I realized I could use slices of cardboard as a means of backing the coffee sacks and as a cork board.

You're going to need:

Frames of your choice

Large pieces of scrap cardboard

A Coffee sack

Scissors or an exact-o knife

A marker

Step 1:

Lay out your piece of cardboard and trace around the inside.

Step 2: Cut out around your traced square. You want to cut a little wider than your trace, as you want it to sit into the frame, not pop out through the hole.

Step 3: Lay the cut piece on your coffee sack. Try to incorporate the logo or labeling to incorporate funk.

Step 4: Trace around your piece of cardboard.

Step 5: Cut out around your traced piece. Leave at least 1.5" of fabric around your trace. This needs to be there so you can wrap the edges around the cardboard.

Step 6: Staple the coffee sack to the cardboard. Start with one edge and work your way around. Make sure to fold the corners in so they don't stick out when you put the cardboard in the frame.

Step 7: Now go ahead and pop your cardboard and coffee sack into the frame. If you made it fit your frame correctly, you should have to use a little force to pop the cardboard back out once you put it back it.

There ya go! Now you have a brand new, and most likely free, bulletin board. Experiment with different frames, colors, and coffee sacks! You can make one large frame or group several small frames together. Enjoy your new bulletin board!

I've been trying to branch out lately. Mostly into the realm of ink/ watercolor in an effort to add spice to my style. But I can't make myself do it! I ADORE black and white line drawings and feel that if I add color, it takes away from my style. Ideas on how to get around this? Maybe it's just a practice thing.

But I did branch out a wee bit on the above piece. I even left the pencil lines as an added bit. This little drawing pays homage to my shopping trip the other day and how grateful I am for finding such cheap and cute things that actually fit me! Yay for stripes, neutral colors and bulky $14 sweaters!

So i received all my organic cotton yarn in the mail today. Baby K and I had a good time winding it into hanks to prep for dying. I working on a line of veggie/fruit dyed organic baby toys. I'm knitting all this into little fruit and veggie toys to sell on my etsy shop. I'm so excited! I even got organic cotton stuffing to stuff them with.
As i write, once test hank is simmering in it's pre-dye bath while a pot of spinach is simmering next to it, to make green dye!
I really hope it turns out ok!

So it's been quite a few months since ive tasted ocean. Sadly. But with the two months being sick, then bronchitis then New Zealand, then sick again then the stormy... I have not gotten in the water this winter. Curse of being a mama to a tiny tot. My gills are dry. My skin and hair are oily and not tan or blond. I miss it.. a lot a lot.
So i've been sustaining myself on drawing, painting and balance boarding in the living room. I would watch my favorite movie, Sprout, but it was borrowed and never returned. boo.
Chin up though, soon enough I shall dip my toes in once again.

It's been quite a while since my last post. sorry kiddos. But the creating has been alive and well and manifested in embroidery and little daily cartoons, as well as the usual knitting.
life is getting better. i'm doin more, keeping well, and getting dressed everyday. this is good. this is better than the past few months.
i will get better about posting, it's new year's resolution.

Here above is an awesome picture of the boys testing out gifts. The tote was embroidered by T! He had been working on it for the past month and just finished it yesterday. It is embroidered with a picnic scene, complete with huge bees. Today he dug through my fabric pile and unearthed a cute pink rose print which he sewed into the tote as lining.
Once the lining was in, K had to climb aboard and test out the tote to make sure it was strong enough.
Do I have the coolest husband or what?

I have been sick for the past week. Ug. A cold, a cough, a everything. Plus the babe got another tooth and the christmas day has been creeping up. So between napping and soothing, I have been crafting, leaving little time for drawing, blogging or flickring. Boo.
But soon enough, I will really not be able to blog. Our tiny clan is going on VACATION! To the wonderful land of Kiwis! New Zealand. We will be climbing mountains! We will be riding whales! We will be farming sheep! We will be casting the one ring that rules them all into the fiery depths of mount doom!!!
But I'm sure I will post in between chirstmas day and now. Never fear.

I love making lists. It's my favorite. Even if I don't do anything that is on said list, I will make the list. But THIS TIME I will actually complete the list. I swear it.

This is my 21 Things to do before I turn 21:

1. 365 Days of Thrift (only buy vintage/thrift for 1 year)

2. A drawing A day for a Year

3. Two-tone hair (blond/brown)

4. Turquoise hair (a little at least)

5. Make enough things to get into a local shop (Pannikin)

6. Make a pair of underwear

7. Build a Silkscreen Press

8. Get an A in a college class

9. Get a barista job

10. Learn to burlesque dance or pole dance

11. Lose the last 15 pounds (or more)

12. Switch to bike only (no car)

13. Make a Comic for APE

14. Knit a full pair of socks

15. Decorate upstairs

16. Knit a whole sweater

17. Participate in a craft fair

18. Do a little backpacking trip (with the babe)

19. Get a tattoo

20. Plan future education / execute

21. Create my own knitting pattern

it appears I have quite a bit to do! But I believe I can get it done. I'm normally the kind of person who can never get anything done, so I'm hoping this list will help me jump start my year getting back into the swing of life. Having a babe has been the hardest and most time consuming thing I have ever done. I feel like I have left my life and myself behind since I have given birth. I am hoping that this year before I turn 21 will be the year I get back into the swing of things and actually start doing things again. Not farting around the house, not sitting on my butt an knitting all day, but actually doing things.

So i have this little gig going... I'm trying to keep a 365 day log of my attire, mood, beverage of choice, and general happenings in my day. It's part of my "21 things I want to do before I turn 21" list. Maybe I could turn it into a book or... just improve my drawing...

I'm contemplating putting them up on Etsy in the future, but for now, they are going to be gifted to various members of my loving family and friends. I have been so completely wrapped in making Christmas gifts and what not, that I have not take any pictures of any of them! Ga! But update: father's hat's done, as are 4 knitted mushrooms, 6 embroidered birds and 5 coffee sleeves! Wow!

My birthday was fantastic! It started with a beach picnic breakfast (from Honey's, my favorite). Then moved to crafting and snacking and ended with dinner with my mom and dad (at Besta Won, another favorite)! Magical! I love low-key birthdays, spent with the people I love. As much as I adore parties, I just don't like having them for myself... So my birthday this year was perfect! I even got to hit up Pannikin and the do a little thrifting! Loved it!

Currently, I'm knitting mushrooms while T is embroidering a tote. Really, he is! I cannot believe how cute that is. Now, all we need to do is get baby K crafting and we will have cute little crafting times!

Since I don't have any pictures of my week thus far, I will leave you with some beautiful winter inspiration!

Truly a busy time of year

Most of my time is spent making Christmas gifts, almost 50% of my time (the other 50 taken up by being a mama). I have finished several knitted veggies for baby K's gift, half a hat for my father and several piles of supplies that are one day going to turn into gifts. I am getting excited though, because tomorrow is not only my birthday-eve but TREE DAY. That's right, the family Bryant is getting their first ever Christmas Tree! Hooray! We have lights, and a cool knitted garland and..... well... maybe three ornaments, that I made in August... So... Here are some awesome pictures of trees I wish I could create!

I've been falling in love with some fantastic euro style lately. Like this folk cushion from Beci Orpin. You may buy the cushion at Lark Handmade.

German, Swedish, Norwegian style is incredibly cheery, colorful and unique to the family or person who makes it. I think this individuality is something us Americans lack in our homes. I know I am inspired by the color folk art of Europe.

Things I am currently doing:

-Knitting veggies and fruits for K's Christmas gift. So far I have 3 strawberries, 1 carrot, 1 eggplant and half a corn cob. More in process

- Trying to decide what to make for my ma

- Prepping for Knitting a hat for my dad

-Making "tag blocks" for baby cousin Avrum

-Attempting to get some dishes done

It really is the busiest time of year. Not to mention my birthday is next week! December 2nd. I will be posting a wish list soon!

Trees and Things

I know, it's been a while... but we have been house-sitting. I have been without my camera cords, my internet access among many other things. Sleep is also something I've been without. This home has kitties, and I am deathly allergic to kitties, so my weezing has been keeping me awake. Luckly, I am staying at my little house tonight. Free from kitties and other lung-restricting allergens.

I have, however, been able to do a little crafting for the holidays. I was inspired by a beautiful blog to make some little crocheted christmas trees and bobble garland. I had a fantastic minty blue yarn, and not liking traditional "christmas colors", used it for my little tree-o of firs. (only two are pictured, but I will be posting the little arrangement soon enough.

Here are the little blues as they are getting built.

And the tree little spruces after. Note the awesome red garland... I made a few in white for out house and another red for the tree. Cool backyard, no? Unfortunately it's not ours... It is a succulent (plant) heaven.

Now, I'm off to finish the garlands and maybe watch a movie with my little brother.

I am in love with a certain crafty-mama blog. She is just too adorable. She just had a baby, so she has been having guest bloggers post for her. Today's post has to do with chunky warmies. And all i want right now is to snuggle up in one of these babies. But if i were to, i'd have to make it myself. Apparently all it takes is 10 skiens of wool and 3 days. I could do that... maybe.

It's true! The redbear shop is going to RE OPEN! I'm currently stocking up on crochet mini bunting that are 3 ft long and a larger size that is 5 ft. long. The items are going up at the end of the week! Get ready!

This is Bad

Really, really bad. My F A V E store has their christmas things in. That means that I am already behind in my christmas crafting. It also means that I am going to be drolling and pestering T with pictures of holiday gear. Thank goodness the man wasn't raised with "christmas" (really, they had "family day"), so now when I keep chattering about ornaments and tinsel, he can tell me we really don't need it. (It's true, we don't.) Maybe I can convince him that a few beautifully crafted ornaments will give our collection a good start (after all, it is our first christmas together).

Alive!

I am actually keeping a plant alive right now. I know, hard to believe. I had a black thumb all the way through high school, but when it came time to keep a human alive (Baby K), I acquired quite a green thumb. I have been working on rooting succulent cuttings in dirt for future projects and potential christmas presents. Currently, I have over 15 rooted babies, all alive and growing! Slowly, I've been transferring them into special coffee mugs, tins and jars that I have been collecting for just that purpose. I am so excited to give them away.

Oh something else fun that I finished. I have really wanted a new little pocket sketch book to carry around with me. After looking at a lot of different things, I decided to make one. I ended up with exactly what I wanted. Then, I naturally had to make a cover. So, I dug into my scraps and came up with the turquoise. I had to do something woodsy, so a stump graced the front. Obviously, I had to make the stump look like wood. In the end I added some green moss on the side, glued the whole thing together and now I have a book! Huzzah!

So what shall my next project be?

So today we went garage sailing, thanks to T for indulging my digging urges. I ended up with 3 vintage tins, over 3 yards of vintage fabric, a vintage button collection and.... A POLAROID CAMERA. Yes, I now own a polaroid, I danced when I found it.
